El joven brasilero Lucas SIlveira se quedó con el mundial junior de la World Surf League que se realizó en la playa de Ericeira, Portugal, al vencer a Timothee Bisso de Guadalupe por 16.17 a 11.74. Noe Mar McGonagle fue el mejor hispanoamericano llegando hasta la cuarta ronda.
«Estoy temblando, fueron dos semanas muy largas, mucha espera y finalmente las olas aparecieron en los últimos días. La final fue muy lenta, empecé muy bien y terminé de mejor forma. Fue un evento muy loco, mi heat más bajo fue de 15 puntos, esto es increíble», comentó Silveira terminado el heat.
En mujeres se consagró la australiana de 18 años Isabella Nichols al vencer en la final a la hawaiiana Mahina Maeda por 18.30 a 11.60. Melanie Giunta fue la mejor latina al quedar en la quinta posición.
